Work Orders for Service & Specialty Retail

Service & Specialty Retail 1:16 walkthrough English captions Full transcript below

Half the reason a customer walks into a specialty store is the bench at the back. This walkthrough shows how service work runs alongside retail in the same system.

What you’ll see

  • Taking a job in at the register, against a customer
  • Service items with a price, a cost and a margin
  • Status, notes, a parts and labor estimate and a promised date
  • The board: what is waiting, in progress, out for repair or ready
  • Configurable statuses that can notify the customer
  • Service revenue in the same reports as retail

Why it matters

Repair shops that run their workshop on paper lose jobs, quote inconsistently and field phone calls all week. Putting service in the point of sale means one customer record, one receipt and one set of numbers.

Half the reason a customer walks into a specialty store is the bench at the back. A work order in PHP Point Of Sale starts the way a sale does. Find the customer, add the service, and take the item in. Services are catalog items, so a boot resole, a ski tune or a pack repair has a price, a cost and a margin like anything else on your shelves. The job then carries what your technician needs: a status, notes about the work, an estimate split between parts and labor, a promised date and a photo if it helps.

The board shows the whole workshop at a glance: what's waiting, what's in progress, what's out for repair and what's ready to collect. Statuses are yours to define, and a status change can email or text the customer, which removes most of the phone calls a workshop fields in a week. When the work is done, the job becomes the sale, with parts and labor on the same receipt. And because it's all one system, your service revenue shows up in the same reports as your retail.

One system for what you sell and what you fix.
