Gift Cards, Promotions & Price Rules

Customers & Loyalty 1:26 walkthrough English captions Full transcript below

The cheapest customer you will win is one who already bought from you. This walkthrough covers the three mechanisms PHP Point Of Sale gives you to bring them back.

What you’ll see

  • Gift cards as real balances, sold and redeemed at the register
  • Price rules: category promotions, quantity breaks and basket thresholds
  • Dates, locations and priority on every rule
  • A rule applying itself on the ticket, named so the customer sees why
  • Loyalty settings, and discount and price rule reporting

Why it matters

A promotion staff have to remember is a promotion that gets applied inconsistently and reported badly. Rules that run themselves are both fairer to the customer and measurable afterwards.

The cheapest customer you'll ever win is the one who already bought something from you. Gift cards in PHP Point Of Sale are real balances. Sell one at the register, redeem it as a payment type, and the remaining value follows the card. Assign a card to a customer if you want it tied to them, and the gift card report shows every card, what's left on it and where it has been spent. Promotions are price rules, and they run themselves. A percentage off a whole category for a seasonal event. Buy three pairs of socks, save twenty percent. Spend a hundred and fifty dollars, take fifteen off with a coupon code.

Each rule has its own dates, its own stores and its own scope — a category, a tag, a manufacturer or a specific list of items — so a promotion starts and stops without anybody remembering to switch it on. At the register it just happens. Add the third pair of socks and the discount appears on the ticket, with the rule named so the customer can see why. Loyalty points sit underneath all of it, earned on spend and redeemable as a payment. And afterwards you can see what every discount and every rule actually cost you.

Promotions that run themselves, and numbers that tell you whether they worked.
